Introduce:
ASTM A789 ASME SA 789 S32205 2205 Duplex Tubing is a 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, 5-6% nickel, nitrogen alloyed duplex stainless steel with high general, localized, and stress corrosion resistance properties in addition to high strength and excellent impact toughness. S32205 is very similar with S31803. The difference is on Chemical composition. Usally we use S32205 replace S31803.
Alloy 2205 Duplex Tubing provides pitting and crevice corrosion resistance superior to 316L or 317L austenitic stainless steel in almost all corrosive media. It also has high corrosion and erosion fatigue properties as well as lower thermal expansion and higher thermal conductivity than austenitic. The advantage of a duplex structure is that it combines the favorable qualities of a ferritic alloy stress corrosion cracking resistance and high strength with austenitic alloy ease of fabrication and corrosion resistance.
ASTM A789 ASME SA 789 S32205 Duplex Stainless Steel is a nitrogen enhanced duplex stainless steel that was developed to combat common corrosion problems encountered with the 300 series stainless steel. “Duplex” describes a family of stainless steel that are neither fully austenitic, like 304 stainless, nor purely ferritic, like 430 stainless steel. The structure of S32205 duplex stainless steel consists of austenitic pools surrounded by a continuous ferritic phase. In the annealing condition, S32205 contains approximately 40-50% ferrite. Often referred to as the work horse grade, 2205 is the most widely used grade in the duplex stainless steel tube.
2205 Duplex Tubing Duplex stainless steel (3.0% to 4.0% Mo) has high strength and excellent resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking. Multipurpose stainless steel, originally used as a fluid flow tube in the oil and gas industry, is now more used in the chemical processing and petrochemical industries and as a digester in the pulp and paper industry.
Usage of S32205 Duplex stainless steel should be limited to temperatures below 600° Extended elevated temperature exposure can embrittle 2205 stainless.

ASTM A789 / ASME SA789 covers grades of average wall thickness, or, if specified on the order, minimum wall thickness, of stainless steel tubing for services requiring general corrosion resistance, with particular emphasis on resistance to stress corrosion cracking. These steels are susceptible to embrittlement if used for prolonged periods at elevated temperatures.
The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The inch-pound units shall apply unless the M designation of this specification is specified in the order.

Heat Treatment
All tubes shall be furnished in the heat-treated condition in accordance with the procedures shown in Table 2. For seamless tubes, as an alternate to final heat treatment in a continuous furnace or batch-type furnace, immediately follow- ing hot forming while the temperature of the tubes is not less than the specified minimum solution treatment temperature, tubes may be individually quenched in water or rapidly cooled by other means.

Hydrostatic or Nondestructive Electric Test
1 Each tube shall be subjected to the nondestructive electric test or the hydrostatic test. The type of test to be used shall be at the option of the manufacturer, unless otherwise specified in the purchase order.
2. The hydrostatic test shall be in accordance with Speci- fication A1016/A1016M, except that in the calculation of the hydrostatic test pressure 64000(441.2) shall be substituted for 32000(220.6).
